WAVERLY, Iowa – The Macalester College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference game at Wartburg College, 3-1 Wednesday night at the Wartburg Soccer Field. The loss gives the Scots a 2-2-1 record on the season, while the Knights improve to 6-2.
After a goal by Alyssa Drewelow in the 38th minute put Wartburg ahead, 1-0, senior midfielder
Hannah Pollard-Garber (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) scored a minute before halftime to tie the score at 1-1. The game remained knotted until the 63rd minute, when the Knights were awarded a penalty kick. Brittany Frush converted the ensuing kick for a 2-1 Knights' advantage.
A Macalester player was sent off with a red card on the same play, leaving the Scots with 10 players. Wartburg took advantage of having an extra player and scored an insurance goal by Morgan Neuendorf in the 86th minute.
Sophomores
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep) and
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) split the goalkeeping duties, with Wilson-King recording one save in the first half and Toomer making six saves in the second half. Beth Crow registered two saves for Wartburg, which outshot the Scots, 24-8 for the game.
Macalester returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 with a MIAC contest at Hamline. The game starts at 3:30 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
