Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
I chose Macalester because I wanted a college where I could challenge myself to learn and grow through academics, athletics, music, and community involvement. I also loved the kind, open-minded spirit I sensed in many people on campus -- the students were passionate and connected, and the faculty and staff were supportive and engaging.

What has your experience at Macalester meant to you so far?
My experience at Macalester so far has been inspiring, challenging, and very fulfilling. Each day I am amazed by the liveliness on campus as students pursue their interests and connect with those around them. In my first year I was able to test myself in many areas, including academics, athletics, and music. As a sophomore returning to a familiar environment, I am thankful to be surrounded by incredible professors, coaches, teammates, and friends, and I look forward to engaging new challenges and continuing to learn from those around me in the months to come.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?
Being a student-athlete at Macalester has allowed me to take risks and challenge myself both on the soccer field and in the classroom. My experiences with the fast pace and high work rate of academics and athletics have taught me to believe in myself and my ability to balance many simultaneous responsibilities. Additionally, I have learned that mistakes and failure can be an important part of the learning process. Through some of the more difficult moments, I have improved my capacity for resilience.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester prepared you for life after graduation?
Being a student-athlete at Macalester has prepared me to effectively engage my commitments, relationships, and passions after graduation. In the classroom, I have learned to be a critical thinker, problem-solve with creativity and collaboration, and be resilient when I make mistakes. On the soccer field, I have learned to engage conflict with strength and assertiveness, push through tough moments, be grateful for times of good health, and put in the work it takes to recover from a major injury. My experiences at Mac have inspired me to keep working to improve in all that I do. I look forward to applying what I have learned at Mac as I transition to the next stage of my journey.
