ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team opened its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a 2-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus Tuesday night at Macalester Stadium. The Scots, who had shut out their first two opponents this season, are now 1-1-1, while the Gusties improve to 1-3-1.
Gustavus broke a scoreless tie in the 20th minute, when Brittany Chase got in behind the Scots' defense and found Maddison Ackiss alone in front of the goal. Ackiss scored for a 1-0 lead. Macalester had several good chances to score but were unable to put the tying goal away. In the 69th minute, Ackiss received a long pass from Coursey Edwards, beat her defender and scored to give Gustavus a two-goal advantage.
Sophomore
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep) recorded three saves in goal for the Scots, while Gustavus' Ashley Becker had seven saves.
Macalester continues MIAC play with a league match at Concordia on Saturday, Sept. 19. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn.
