LAKE CITY, Minn. – For the first time in the program's history, the Macalester College men's golf team broke 300 in an 18-hole round, carding a 297 to beat Saint Mary's in the annual Mac-Saint Mary's dual Tuesday afternoon at The Jewel.
Junior
Josh Wingardner (Boxford, Mass./St. John's Preparatory) shot a one-under par 70 to edge Blake Westerberg for medalist honors. Wingardner's performance also tied Macalester's record for the lowest 18-hole score, matching Kramer Lawson (2003) and Tyler Hanck (2012). Senior
James Meyerson (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) finished third overall with a 75, while junior
Drew Gumlia (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) and sophomore
Blaze Beecher (Edina, Minn./Breck School) tied for fourth at 76. Sophomore
Jack Buan (Osseo, Minn./Wayzata) closed out the scoring for the Scots with a 79 to tie for sixth.
The team score of 297 broke the school record of 300 set at last year's Mac-Saint Mary's dual.
