ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team traveled to the campus of St. Catherine University to take on the Wildcats in a final pair of MIAC games this season. The Scots fell in both, dropping an 8-0 game one and a 9-1 game two to complete action in the 2015 season.
Macalester ends the season with a 19-20 overall record and a 7-15 mark in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. St. Kate's moves to 28-10 overall and 15-7 in conference action. The Wildcats will advance to the MIAC tournament to be held May 1 and 2.
Game One Recap: St. Kate's 8, Macalester 0 (Six Innings)
Both teams were slow to start in game one with both teams scoreless after four complete innings.
St. Kate's got things going in the bottom of the fifth when they scored three runs on four hits to take a three run lead. The Wildcats added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up by eight and end the game early due to the run rule.
Macalester collected just one hit in the game, a single by senior shortstop
Saraswati Wilson.
St. Kate's pitcher Krista Flugstad struck out six, walked none and shut down the Scots with a one-hit performance.
Miranda Stokes was credited with the loss for Macalester, pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and eight runs. Stokes' record falls to 8-10 on the mound this season.
Game Two Recap: St. Kate's 9, Macalester 1 (Six Innings)
The Scots offense was halted again in game two, as St. Kate's held them to just two hits in the game. Junior
Abby Cox singled up the middle in the top of the fourth and senior
Brittany Ehmann hit an RBI double to score
Lisa Semro for the Scot's lone run in the top of the fifth.
Wildcat pitchers Megan Lindenfelser and Kailee Berquam combined for nine strikeouts in the six-inning game. Ehmann was credited with the loss, her record dropping to 9-10 on the mound this season.
