Men's Basketball: Macalester returns home for two games this week.

On Tap
After being on the road for four of its last five games, Macalester will be home for a pair of games this week. The Scots will entertain Augsburg, Wednesday, in a game slated for a 7 p.m. start. Saturday, Macalester hosts Hamline in a 3 p.m. matinee.

The Records
Macalester 5-13 overall, 2-11 MIAC; Augsburg 9-9 overall, 6-7 MIAC; Concordia 10-6 overall, 6-5 MIAC.

When Last We Met
Macalester has faced both Augsburg and Hamline this season, dropping road decisions to both.

The Scots shot just 26.8 percent from the field in a 67-36 loss at Augsburg, Dec. 10. The Auggies used a 16-point run in the first half to turn a four-point lead into 20 late in the first half and never looked back.

Hamline used a 20-point advantage in the paint, outscoring Macalester, 36-16, in the lane, to post a 69-55 win on Jan. 3.

The Pipers' inside game also led to a 36-25 rebound advantage as they shot 50.0 percent from the floor and had three players – Dior Ford, 17; Austin Johnson, 12; Travis Johnson, 10 – score in double figures and got 20 points from its bench.

The Scots' also had three players – Dylan Kilgour, 16; Kyle Bernhard, 15; Kareem Ismail, 14 – but the trio accounted for 45 of the teams' 55 points.

Last Time Out
Macalester dropped a 63-52 decision at Concordia, Saturday, as turnovers unraveled an otherwise solid performance by the Scots.

Macalester turned the ball over 13 times and forced just two Concordia turnovers, neither of which came in the second half, in a game which saw the Scots outshoot (47.5 percent to 41.8 percent) and outrebound (32-30) the Cobbers.

While Concordia had a balanced scoring attack, with all five starters scoring at least eight points, Macalester relied heavily on Ismail and Kilgour, who scored 20 and 13 points respectively.

Streaking
The Scots bring a two-game home winning streak into Wednesday's game with Augsburg. The last time Macalester won consecutive home games was Dec. 3 & 5, 2007, when the Scots claimed back-to-back, 72-70 wins over Saint Mary's and St. Thomas while using St. Catherine as its home venue during the construction of the Leonard Center.

Winter Sports Day
Saturday has been designated as Winter Sports Day for the Macalester men's and women's basketball teams, which play a matinee doubleheader. The men's team will host an alumni game Saturday morning and honor those alumni at halftime of the men's game with Hamline.

As the final Saturday home game of the season, it will also be Senior Day as Macalester honors its two seniors – Hans Erickson and Bert Yaffe – in pregame ceremonies.

Following the Scots
Live stats and video of both games this week will be available at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/macalester/.

He's the Boss
Tim Whittle is in his sixth season at Macalester and owns a 18-125 career record.

Whittle came to Macalester following a successful assistant coaching stint at national-powerhouse Washington University in St. Louis, where he was the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the two-time NCAA Division III national champions (2008 & 2009). In five seasons he helped guide the Bears to a 112-30 overall record and three consecutive Final Four appearances (2007-09).

Prior to his stint with Washington University, Whittle served as an assistant coach for three years (2001-2004) at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., where he was also head men's golf coach and assistant cross country coach.

In 1996, following his graduation from Washington University with a degree in finance and management, he began a four-year career in the banking business for SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, before joining the Florida Marlins. As the manager of finance, he coordinated efforts to fund a $400 million baseball stadium in downtown Miami.

As a player, Whittle was a four-year letter-winner at Washington University, helping the Bears to a 79-27 record and two NCAA playoff appearances, including reaching the 1996 Elite Eight. He received a Master's in Education degree in 2008 from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.

Up Next
