ST. PAUL, Minn.– In the last matchup of the season, the Scots played host to Hamline University. Despite a strong performance from senior tandem
Noah Shannon (Northfield, Ill./ New Terrier) and
Ryan Brush (Bellevue, Wash./ Bellevue) the Scots dropped the contest by a score of 90-70. The Scots finish their season with an overall record of 7-18, and 2-14 in conference play, while the Pipers finish 15-10, and 7-10 in the MIAC.
Both squads came out strong to start the contest, with first-year guard
Jamal Randle (St.Paul,Minn./ Great River School) drilling a three, while Shannon and
Joaquin Aguillon (San Rafael, Calif./ The Branson School) connected on some layups to match the Pipers and start off the game 7-7. Hamline began to settle in a bit defensively and went on a 9-2 run to give them a little bit of breathing room with a 16-9 advantage. In an attempt to get the Scots back on schedule, Randle connected on another three pointer, while Brush delivered some layups and a pair of free throws to get the Scots right back in it and down by three. The Pipers were unphased, and answered back with a pair of triples to continue to fend off the Scots and keep them trailing. Down 31-22 with four minutes left in the half, Macalester was able to go bucket for bucket with Hamline to show signs of life. Shannon began to establish his presence in the paint, finishing a trio of layups, while Aguillion was able to get in on the action as well and send the Scots into the locker room trailing 43-30.
Brush came out with a fire under him to kick off the second half, quickly connecting on two triples and a jumpshot to cut into the Hamline lead. The Scots were unable to tighten the screws up on the defensive end of the floor, allowing the Pipers to score four layups that the Scots answered with a pair of threes from Brush and junior forward
Kyle Jilla (Dallas, Texas./ Plano West). Trailing 60-46, Shannon continued to go to work down low and give the Scots some signs of life, but the Pipers came back with a 7-0 run to flex their lead all the way up to 67-51. Just past the midway point of the half, Randle was able to string together four more points for Macalester, but the Scots just couldn't keep up with Hamline's offense who continued to answer every bucket that Macalester scored. Brush, Shannon, and Randle continued to fight for the Scots down the stretch but came up short and dropped the contest by a final score of 90-70
Shannon led the way for the Scots, finishing with 22 points and 7 boards to go alongside. Brush capped off the night with 17 points while Randle chipped in 15. Aguillion contributed 4 blocks for Macalester, the most by any Scot in a game this season. This performance moved Shannon to 17th on Macalester's all-time scoring list.
The Scots graduate just two seniors and are set to return 11 for the 2026-2027 season.
