On TapMacalester, having played three games in each of the previous two weeks, gets a slight respite this week as the Scots only have two games on the slate. However, both are one the road, beginning with Wednesday's 7:45 p.m. contest at St. Olaf. Saturday, Macalester is on the road again for a 3 p.m. game, taking to the road for its longest trip of the 2014-15 season in Moorhead, Minn., as the Scots take on Concordia.

The RecordsMacalester 5-11 overall, 2-9 MIAC; St. Olaf 13-3 overall, 8-3 MIAC; Concordia 10-6 overall, 6-5 MIAC.
When Last We MetMacalester and St. Olaf will be meeting for the second time this season as the Oles claimed a 68-58 win, Dec. 3, at the Leonard Center.

Trailing by 15 early in the second half, Macalester would eventually close the gap to five points before St. Olaf pulled out the win. The Oles led by 13 at halftime, thanks to a 56.5 percent shooting performance from the floor and, more importatnly a 10-for-13 effort at the freethrow line, where the Scots did not have an attempt in the opening 20 minutes.

Dylan Kilgour led Macalester with 15 points, hitting six of 10 field goals, including three of five three-pointers.
Kareem Ismail added 12 points, going 6-for-6 at the line, while
Kyle Bernhard came off the bench to contribute 11 points.
Max Horvath, who also came off the bench, led the Scots with six rebounds.

Likewise, the Cobbers came into the Leonard Center, Jan. 5, and left with a 58-50 victory as Macalester raced out to an early lead but 16 turnovers led to 26 Concordia points and enabled the Cobbers to claim the victory.

Leading the way for the Scots was
Bert Yaffe, who hit eight of 13 shots from the field, including all three three-point attempts, to give him a career-best 19 points. Ismail added 18 while Bernhard, making his second consecutive start, tied his career high with seven rebounds for the second game in a row.
Last Time OutMacalester recorded its second conference win of the season, Saturday, with a 57-49 overtime victory Carleton behind an impressive shooting display by Bernhard.

The Knights twice took leads in the overtime. Bernhard's first shot of the extra session fell and tied the game at 47-47. He then hit a 24-foot three-point basket to give the Scots the lead for good at 50-49. For good measure, he followed that with by dropping a 26-foot bomb to give Macalester a four-point lead before Ismail hit four consecutive free throws to seal the win.

Bernhard's career-best 16 points came on 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Dylan Kilgour scored 14 points and made five of his nine shots from the field, going 3-for-4 on his three-point attempts, while Yaffe added 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting, hitting both of his three points attempts.

Making StridesSaturday's win over Carleton gave the Scots their fifth win of the season, marking the first time since 2007-08, when Macalester went 6-19 on the season, that they have reached the five-win plateau.

He's the BossTim Whittle is in his sixth season at Macalester and owns a 18-123 career record.
Whittle came to Macalester following a successful assistant coaching stint at national-powerhouse Washington University in St. Louis, where he was the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the two-time NCAA Division III national champions (2008 & 2009). In five seasons he helped guide the Bears to a 112-30 overall record and three consecutive Final Four appearances (2007-09).

Prior to his stint with Washington University, Whittle served as an assistant coach for three years (2001-2004) at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., where he was also head men's golf coach and assistant cross country coach.
In 1996, following his graduation from Washington University with a degree in finance and management, he began a four-year career in the banking business for SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, before joining the Florida Marlins. As the manager of finance, he coordinated efforts to fund a $400 million baseball stadium in downtown Miami.
As a player, Whittle was a four-year letter-winner at Washington University, helping the Bears to a 79-27 record and two NCAA playoff appearances, including reaching the 1996 Elite Eight. He received a Master's in Education degree in 2008 from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.
Up NextMacalester returns home for a pair of games next week, taking on Augsburg, Wednesday, at 7 p.m., before hosting Hamline, Saturday, in a 3 p.m. matinee.
