On Tap
For the second week in a row, the Scots have a week scheduled with three games in six days on the docket. Macalester begins the week of action tonight with a 7 p.m. game at Gustavus Adololphus, followed by another road game, Wednesday, when they travel to Saint John's for another 7 p.m. The week's slate ends with a home game, Saturday, versus Carleton at 3 p.m.

The Records
Macalester 4-9 overall, 1-7 MIAC; Gustavus Adolphus 9-4 overall, 5-3 MIAC; Saint John's 7-6 overall, 5-3 MIAC; Carleton 6-7 overall, 3-5 MIAC.

When Last We Met
The last meeting between the Scots and Gusties was also in St. Peter, Feb. 5, 2014. In that game, the hosts broke a halftime tie by slowly pulling away in the second half for a 64-54 win. Second-chance points proved to be the difference as GAC had a 31-20 rebounding advantage, which led to a 16-7 advantage in second-chance points. Kareem Ismail led Macalester with 22 points and seven rebounds.

The Scots' last meeting with the Johnnies came at the Leonard Center, Feb. 12, 2014, and saw Saint John's leave with a 77-53 win. Ismail again led the way offensively with 16 points and seven rebounds while Sager Moritzky chipped in with nine points and six assists.

Macalester and Carleton met earlier this season, Dec. 6, in Northfield, with the Knights coming away with a 54-44 victory. The Scots put together an 11-2 run late in game to cut a 19-point deficit to 10 points, but could not get any closer. A 14-for-51 shooting performance, including a 1-for-18 effort from three-point range, proved costly. Ismail was the only Scot to score in double figures, with 18  points, while Tianen Chen had 14, Peter Bakker-Arkema had 12 and Kevin Grove added 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Last Time Out
After trailing by as many as eight point, with 11:13 to play in the first half, Macalester stormed back and claimed a 73-59 win from Saint Mary's for the Scots' first MIAC win of the season. The Scots shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second half to finish with a season-best 53.7 percent effort from the field. Macalester also had season bests with 18 assists and nine steals along with a season low nine turnovers. Dylan Kilgour led the Scots with 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Kyle Bernhard scored 11 points as all five starters scored at least seven points and the bench chipped in with 20 more.

He's the Boss
Tim Whittle is in his sixth season at Macalester and owns a 17-121 career record.

Whittle came to Macalester following a successful assistant coaching stint at national-powerhouse Washington University in St. Louis, where he was the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the two-time NCAA Division III national champions (2008 & 2009). In five seasons he helped guide the Bears to a 112-30 overall record and three consecutive Final Four appearances (2007-09).

Prior to his stint with Washington University, Whittle served as an assistant coach for three years (2001-2004) at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., where he was also head men's golf coach and assistant cross country coach.

In 1996, following his graduation from Washington University with a degree in finance and management, he began a four-year career in the banking business for SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, before joining the Florida Marlins. As the manager of finance, he coordinated efforts to fund a $400 million baseball stadium in downtown Miami.

As a player, Whittle was a four-year letter-winner at Washington University, helping the Bears to a 79-27 record and two NCAA playoff appearances, including reaching the 1996 Elite Eight. He received a Master's in Education degree in 2008 from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.

Up Next
Macalester is on the road for a pair of MIAC games next week, travelling to Northfield for a 7:45 p.m. game at St. Olaf, Wednesday, before trekking to Moorhead for a 3 p.m. matinee, Saturday, at Concordia.
