Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. -- First-year goalkeeper
Emma Toomer made five saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless and an own goal provided Macalester with the winning margin in a 1-0 victory over UW-Stout.
The Blue Devils employed a tight defensive system in the first half with an aggressive attack up front, outshooting their hosts, 9-2, in the opening 45 minutes. However, Toomer stopped all five shot the visitors put on net to prevent her team from trailing heading into halftime.
The Scots began to get more chances in the second half, holding a 5-0 edge in corner kicks, and one of those led to the game's only goal.
As the contest entered its 68th minute,
Margaret Nemetz took a corner kick from the right corner that was deflected back out of the penalty box. She corralled the loose ball and made a crossing pass to the top of the crease, which hit a UW-Stout defender and bounced into the far side of the goal.
From that point, the Blue Devils would only get two more shots and no serious threats as Macalester held on to raise its record to 4-2-1 on the season.
Next up for the Scots is a return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play when they host Saint Benedict, Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
