Box Score 2 Macalester split with Augsburg on Monday evening at Parade Stadium in a nonconference affair to end the 2014 spring season. The Scots took the first game 12-6, but dropped the second contest 6-4. Macalester finishes the season at 5-15 in the MIAC and a 14-24 overall record.
Tom Forster (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) carried the Scots in the first game with a 4-for-5 effort, which included a double, run scored and three RBI. Teammate
Ross Bronfenbrenner (Sr., San Anselmo, Calif. / Marin Academy) also contributed, going 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI.
Aidan Hennen (Fy., St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) and
Nick Sia (So., Crofton, Md. / South River) each went 3-for-4 at the dish, with Hennen hitting a double a scoring two runs.
The Auggies led 6-2 after three innings, but the Scots poured on ten consecutive runs through innings four through seven to run away with Game One.
Chase Khan (Cooper City, Fla. / American Heritage Plantation) picked up his second victory of the year in relief, going three innings and allowing only three hits and no earned runs.
Brendan O'Connor (Fy., Piedmont, Calif.) notched his second save in as many games in two innings of relief to close out the game.
The Scots carried over their offensive surge from the first game by striking for three runs in the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 advantage. However, like Macalester in Game One, the Auggie bats woke up and scored six consecutive runs to take control.
Scott Foltz (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) drove in two of the Macalester four runs in the game, while Bronfenbrenner went 2-for-4 with a run scored in his final game as a Scot.
