Baseball: Scots split with Auggies

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Amidst free food and giveaways, the Scots split their doubleheader with Augsburg on Saturday afternoon at Nicholson Field during the M-Club Spring Sports Day celebration. The Scots took Game One by a score of 8-3 and fell 3-1 in the second game.

The Scots are now 4-14 in the MIAC, and 12-22 overall, while Augsburg now possesses a 6-12 MIAC record and 12-20 overall.

In the first game, the Scots broke a 3-3 game in the bottom half of the sixth with a Colin Carpenter (Sr., Harvard, Ill.) two-run home run. It was the senior's first longball of the season after clubbing four in his junior campaign. The Macalester offense continued to pour it on in the inning, with RBI doubles from Tom Forster (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) and Quentin Stuart (Fy., Nashville, Ind. / Indiana Academy).

Phillip Stuhr (So., Onalaska, Wis.) collected his first career Macalester home run, a two-run shot to left field in the first inning. Ross Bronfenbrenner (Sr., San Anselmo, Calif. / Marin Academy) delivered a perfect 3-3 game and collected two doubles to aid the Macalester offensive attack.

Mac pitcher Joseph Aulisi (Fy., McLean, Va. / Langley) pitched his first career complete game to improve to 2-1 on the season. He allowed only six hits and one earned run, while striking out six Auggie batters in seven innings of work.

The second-game began as a pitcher's duel between Macalester starter Justin Kleschen (Jr., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township)  and Auggie pitcher Tanner Oakes. Kleschen went seven strong innings and struck out four. He only allowed one run on the day but picked up the no decision.

Macalester picked up their only run of the game in the third inning off of a Bronfenbrenner solo home run. Despite nine total hits in the ballgame, the Scots failed to tally another run for the remainder of the contest.

Offensively, the Scots also received doubles from Carpenter and Aidan Hennen (Fy., St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall).

The Scots will host Northwestern (Minn.) this Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. They then play the following day again at Nicholson Field in their conference finale against Hamline.
