Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Macalester scored twice on its first four offensive plays, taking a 14-point lead barely three minutes into the game, en route to a 33-0 victory over Lawrence to remain unbeaten in the Midwest Conference North Division.
The Scots got the opening kickoff and took possession at their own 36-yard line.
Zandy Stowell rushed for seven yards on the first play before quarterback
Samson Bialostok kept the ball on the second play, ran to his right and cut back to his left and sped up the middle for a 57-yard touchdown run.
A three-and-out by the Vikings gave Macalester the ball at their own 31 and it was Stowell carrying on the first play, for five yards, before Bialostok went deep down the middle to
Garrett Eichhorn for a 64-yard touchdown.
Things continued to go the way of the Scots when
Michael Abramson's ensuing line-drive kickoff hit Lawrence's Jake Walker, who was dropping back as a blocker, and
Phil Wettersten fell on the loose ball, giving the hosts possession at the Lawrence 41.
They were not able to get the ball in the end zone for a third consecutive time and had to settle for a 31-yard Abramson field goal to take a 17-0 lead.
The teams then traded three-and-outs with Lawrence doing so twice. However, lined up to punt for a third consecutive punt, the Vikings had a snap go over punter Dan Rothbauer's head and out of the end zone for a safety and, to add insult to injury, the Scots needed just three plays to get back into the end zone following Lawrence's kick, giving them a 26-0 lead as Bialostock connected with
Ben Hillmann for a 25-yard scoring strike.
Macalester added its final touchdown on its final possession of the half when the Scots put together a 10-play, 73-yard drive, taking 5:01 off the clock, which was capped by
Ethan Carpenter three-yard run with 1:52 to play in the half.
After piling up 201 yards of total offense in the first quarter, Macalester finished with 394 yards, 219 of which came on 44 rushing attempts. Nine different players were credited with rushing attempts for the Scots, led by Bialostok and
Matthew Bonazzoli, both of whom finished with 58 yards.
Bialostok, who did not play in the second half, also threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns, completing four of six passes, amassing 190 yards of total offense on just eight plays.
The Scots' defense allowed 238 yards of total offense and just 26 rushing yards.
Nicholas Egersdorf came off the bench to lead the squad with seven tackles, including a career-best three quarterback sacks while forcing a fumble.
Reid Callahan had five tackles in the game, three for losses totalling 16 yards, with one sack and a forced fumble.
Now on a six-game winning streak and tied for the North Division lead, Macalester hosts Carroll, with which it is tied for first, next Saturday in a 1 p.m. The winner of that game will be in sole possession of first place heading into the final week of conference play with the advantage in qualifying for the conference championship game.
