Box Score Macalester and visiting Wartburg (Ia.) played a close match on a nice night in St. Paul, and it was the Wartburg Knights escaping with a 1-0 decision over the Scots. Playing the third of five straight matches against MIAC opponents to start the season, the Knights move to 2-0-1 after beating St. Thomas and tying Augsburg to start the season. The Scots drop to 0-3 with their third straight setback to an opponent from outside the state.
"We came off a real tough weekend in Illinois," said Macalester head coach
Gregg Olson. "To play with confidence as we did tonight says a lot about our guys mentality and belief in themselves. Tonight we played well enough to win the game. Now we have to generate more scoring opportunities. We are good. The men believe they are good. They will find the back of the net soon. And when we do, we will with regularity and we'll be very hard to play against."
The game's only score came on a Wartburg header on a long set piece at the 25:52 mark and for the most part, that was the only good chance all evening for the Knights. Macalester had its share of chances, producing 12 shots and tries on net from
Robin Forslund (Sr., Madison, Wis. / West),
Alan Schembri-Wismayer (Fy., Rochester, Minn. / Lourdes) and
Austin Burrows (Fy., Roseville, Calif. / Jesuit).
The Scots jump back into action Monday (Sept. 9) when they play host to Northwestern-Roseville at 4:30 p.m.
