Macalester forced overtime by equalizing the score at 1-1 early in the second half, but host-St. Thomas blasted in the game-winner late in the second overtime session to hold off Macalester 2-1 in the MIAC opener for both teams.  This was a match between a pair of teams hoping to push for a high conference finish this year.

The Tommies opened the scoring in the 43rd minute to take a halftime advantage.  However, 10 minutes into the second half, the Scots evened the score at 1-1 when Bonnie Gale (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska / South Anchorage) scored on a Georgia Cloepfil (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) assist.

That's where the score stood and just before it was to wrap up as a tie, St. Thomas netted the game-winner at 1:08.32.

UST held a slight 15-11 edge in shots and 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.  Macalester goalkeeper Ellen Palmquist (Sr., Fort Collins, Colo. / Poudre) was called on to register six saves.

The Scots play their second MIAC match Saturday (Sept. 21) when they host Hamline at 1 p.m.
