Macalester's season wrapped up with a doubleheader loss at St. Olaf as the hot Ole bats gave the home team a 9-6 and 24-14 sweep over the Scots. Macalester closes out at 11-28 overall and 4-16 in the MIAC.
The three-run loss in the opener was competitive, but Macalester could not overcome a seven-run St. Olaf rally in the bottom of the second inning. The Scots out-hit the Oles 12-7 and received a 3-for-3 hitting performance from Justin Sims (Sr., Bronx, N.Y. / The Beacon School).
Colin Carpenter (Jr., Harvard, Ill.) and
David Melms (Sr., Wauwatosa, Wis. / Wisconsin Lutheran) added two hits apiece.
Reliever
Ben Farber (Fy., New York, N.Y. / Friends Seminary School) gave up just a hit and two runs in four innings to keep the Scots in the contest.
Both teams scored 11 runs in an endless fourth inning and St. Olaf put things away with another eight runs in the fifth. Carpenter belted his team-leading fourth home run for the Scots.
Jimmy Belfont (Sr., Olney, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel) went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to close out his final season with an outstanding .398 batting average.
St. Olaf stays in the chase for a MIAC playoff berth and goes to 19-14 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
