Macalester clinched a berth in next week's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) four-team women's soccer playoffs by beating St. Mary's 6-0 in St. Paul in the regular-season finale.  The second-place Scots will head into the post-season at the No. 2-seeded team and will host a semi-final tilt Tuesday (Nov. 5) against No. 3-seeded St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m.  Mac closes out the regular-season at 12-4-1and league campaign at 8-3.

The Scots out-shot the Cardinals 34-1, not allowing an attempt until the 88th minute, and had 21 shots on goal, compared to none for SMU.

Macalester seniors were honored before the match on Senior Day and accounted for five of the team's six goals.  Also, senior goalkeepers Ellen Palmquist (Fort Collins, Colo. / Poudre) and Saskia Ilcisin (Beaverton, Ore. / Oregon Episcopal) combined for the team's seventh shutout.

Lydia Chodosh (So., Los Angeles, Calif. / Culver City) opened the scoring just 2:22 in, but that was all Macalester managed until the second half.  Georgia Cloepfil (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) produced the first of her three goals in the first minute of the second half, and in the 51st minute, Maggie Molter (Sr., Cedarburg, Wis.) scored her fourth of the year to make it 3-0 in favor of the home side.

Cloepfil netted her second and third of the game (and 16th and 17th of the season) at 54:57 and 77:00 to increase the margin to 5-0.  She has two hat tricks for the season and three on her career.  The Scots put the finishing touches of the win in the 82nd minute when defender Bonnie Bentson (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) produced her first career goal on the second assist of the match by Hannah Walker (Jr., Falls Church, Va. / George Mason).

While Macalester and St. Olaf meet on one side of the MIAC bracket, the other conference semi-final match Tuesday has No. 1 St. Benedict hosting No. 4 Concordia-Moorhead. Admission for Mac's contest with St. Olaf is $7 for adults and $3 for students (children five and under are free).
