Carleton compiled 474 yards in total offense, forced five turnovers, and went on to beat Macalester 56-17 in St. Paul and maintain its possession of the Book of Knowledge travelling trophy. The Scots, who lose five turnovers for the second week in a row, drop to 2-3 on the season, while Carleton snaps a two-game skid and improves to 3-2. Carleton scored 14 points in all four quarters and has now won 10 straight in the series.
Macalester quarterback Samson Bialostock (Jr., North Woodmere, N.Y. / Lawrence) went 21-for-31 for 241 yards and two touchdowns, and also ran 15 times for 35 yards. His top receivers were
C.J. Smith (Sr., Ashland, Wis.) with nine catches for 54 yards,
Tre Nowaczynski (Fy., Hales Corner, Wis. / West Allis Central) with four for 56 and a touchdown, and
John Johnson (Sr., McKenzie, Tenn.) with three catches for 78 yards and 41-yard TD reception.
Adam Ward (Sr., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) made 12 tackles to lead the Macalester defense, while
Jole Miller (Jr., Missouri Valley, Ia.) and
Ryan Fleming (So., Charlotte, Vt. / Champlain Valley Union) collected 11 apiece.
Carleton quarterback Conor Lynch was a two-way threat for the Knights, going 10-for-14 passing for 165 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding 98 yards and two scores on the ground on 13 carries.
Chris Madden rushed for 124 yards and a TD for Carleton and Anthony Kemper caught five passes for 91 yards and a score. Carleton led 14-0 after one quarter and 28-0 at halftime.
Carleton led 22-16 in first downs, 474-322 in total yardage, and had 33:12 in possession time.
Macalester plays next Saturday at the University of Chicago.
