MOORHEAD, Minn. – The halftime score was encouraging before Concordia College racked up 21 points in the third quarter to carry the Cobbers past Macalester College, 42-16 Saturday afternoon at Jake Christiansen Stadium. The Scots are now 3-6 overall and 2-6 in the conference, while the Cobbers improve to 7-2, 6-2 MIAC.
After Concordia scored on the first drive of the game with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Nick Walter to Davion Henderson, the Macalester defense stopped the Cobbers on three straight possessions. Meanwhile, the offense started to produce. On the first play of their third drive of the game, the Scots struck with a 67-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback
Jack Scully (Menlo Park, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) to first year receiver
Carter Hayden (Fort Wayne, Ind./Coral Springs Charter) to tie the score at 7-7.
During the ensuing kickoff, junior linebacker
Riley Pearce (Mendota Heights, Minn./Two Rivers) forced a fumble and first year receiver

Andrew Wetherill (Langhorne, Pa./The Hun School of Princeton) kicked a 30-yard field goal for a 10-7 Scots' lead.
Concordia scored a touchdown late in the second quarter on a 58-yard pass from Walter to Ron Gallegos to take a 14-10 lead at halftime. The Cobbers outgained Macalester 127-12 in the second quarter and had the ball for 10 of the 15 minutes, setting the stage for a dominant third quarter.
The Cobbers scored touchdowns on their first two drives of the third quarter, with Walter running for an 11-yard score and hitting Jed Klang with a four-yard touchdown pass for a commanding 28-10 advantage. On the Scots' next drive, Scully was intercepted by Ethan Anderson at the Concordia 19-yard line. But on the very next play, sophomore defensive back
Addison Stirling (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) picked off Walter, giving Macalester the ball at the Cobber 29. Seven consecutive running plays ended with Scully running it in from the 2-yard line to make the score 28-16.
Before the end of the third quarter, Klang scored on a 54-yard touchdown reception for a 35-16 Cobber lead. Another Concordia touchdown in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 42-16, and the Cobbers kept the Scots off the scoreboard the rest of the way to close out the win. Concordia gained 487 yards of total offense while limiting Macalester to 228 yards, including 51 yards rushing.
