Augsburg takes pair from Scots

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Augsburg snapped Macalester's six-game win streak by holding off the Scots 5-3 in the opener, and then completed the sweep with a 14-4 victory in game two of an MIAC twinbill at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis.

After winning their first four conference games, the Scots drop to 14-11 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC.  The Auggies are now 17-8 overall, 3-3 in league action.

Macalester struck first in the opener, but Augsburg took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.  The Auggies went up 4-1 before the Scots plated single runs in the fourth and fifth frames to get to within a run.  The Scots, however, could get no closer.

The Scots scored in the second on back-to-back doubles by Garrett Salzman (Sr., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis) and Nick Mar (Fy., Sacramento, Calif. / McClatchy).  Mitch Glasser (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School) tripled (his 11th career three-bagger) and scored on a Robert Williams (Sr., West Covina, Calif. / Northview) single.  In the fifth, Mac scored on a single and a couple Auggie errors.

Augsburg rolled to a 14-0 lead in the nightcap before giving up four Macalester seventh-inning runs.  Ezra Wise (Sr., Bronxville, N.Y. / The Hackley School) went 2-for-2 with a three-run double for the Scots and Graham Brown (Sr., Annandale, Minn.) also had two hits.

The Scots look to bounce back when they host Bethel on Tuesday (April 9) at 2:30 p.m.
