Augsburg won a 10-inning pitching battle in game one and went on to gain a 5-4 and 9-4 sweep over host-Macalester. The Scots fall to 14-10 on the year, 3-5 in the MIAC, while the Auggies are 10-14 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The first contest was a classic pitching duel between Macalester's
Amanda Knopf (Sr., Boulder, Colo.) and Augsburg's Amanda Eaton, and was deadlocked at 1-1 after nine innings of play. The hitting picked things up in the 10th, when the Auggies scored four runs and Macalester made things interesting with three in the bottom of the frame.
Knopf gave up just three hits and a run through her first nine innings in the circle.
Maddy Jasper (Fy., Corona, Calif. / Santiago) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored and
Katie Fuller (So., Boulder, Colo.) went 2-for-5 with a run driven in.
After Augsburg broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the seventh, the Scots forced extra innings by scoring in the bottom of the frame on a Fuller double, and a throwing error caused by aggressive Mac base-running by pinch-runner
Tara Cayton (Fy., Pleasanton, Calif. / Amador Valley).
Courtney Nussbaumer (Jr., Brookfield, Wis. / East) went 3-for-4 in the nightcap to increase her batting average to .447. Adding a pair of hits each were Fuller,
Miranda Stokes (Fy., Perry, Utah / Box Elder) and
Hali Englert (Fy., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View).
The Scots are off until next Wedneday (April 11) when they travel to St. Peter to take on Gustavus.
