Macalester splits with Bethel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Macalester scored twice in the opening inning of the first game and held off Bethel for a 4-3 victory, but visiting Bethel came back to claim the nightcap 5-2.  The Scots, now 16-overall, have doubled last season's win total and stand at 5-9 in MIAC play.

Starter Amanda Knopf (Sr., Boulder, Colo.) and reliever Brittany Ehmann (Fy., Island Lake, Ill. / Wauconda) surrendered 11 hits in the opener, but stranded 11 Royals on base as the Scots won despite being held to six hits.  Courtney Nussbaumer (Jr., Brookfield, Wis. / East) drove in Mac's two first-inning runs which put the Scots up for good.

Knopf pitched five innings and goes to 8-5 on the season, and Ehmann collected her second save with two solid relief frames.

Nussbaumer belted her second career round-tripper to lead off the fourth to put the Scots up 4-2 and provide a key insurance run.

Miranda Stokes (Fy., Perry, Utah / Box Elder) went 3-for-4 with her fifth home run in game two, but the rest of the team managed only three hits.

Bethel is now 11-21 overall and 5-9 in the conference.  The Royals did not commit an error on the day.

The Scots get back into MIAC action Thursday (April 19) when they host St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m.
