Macalester and Hamline play to split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Nick Meerson (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake) pitched the Scots to a 4-2 win in the opening game of an MIAC twinbill against Hamline, improving his record to 7-1 on the season, but the visiting Pipers forced extra innings with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh frames, and picked up the split with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.

The Scots remain in second place in the MIAC standings at 7-3 (tied with Augsburg behind 10-0 St. Thomas) and are 17-12 overall.

Hamline scored twice in the first inning of the opener, but Meerson didn't allow anything after that.  Meerson allowed only six hits and a while to pick up his fifth complete game of the season.  CJ Smith (So., Ashland, Wis.) went 3-for-3 with a double, and adding a couple hits each were Mitch Glasser (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School) and Robert Williams (Sr., West Covina, Calif. / Northview).

The Pipers out-hit the Scots 13-6 in the second contest but couldn't get the win until scoring a pair of eighth-inning runs.  Glasser and Williams contributed two hits for the second game in a row.

Macalester returns to action Wednesday (April 18) when they play at No. 5-ranked St. Thomas.
