Macalester will head into its upcoming 10-game Spring Schedule at 3-1 on the season after sweeping Minnesota-Morris 4-2 and 8-0 Tuesday at the Rosemount Dome. Mac pitchers surrendered just five hits on the day, including only one in the game two shutout.
Amanda Knopf (Sr., Boulder, Colo.) stuck out a career-best 11 batters while not issuing any free passes in the opening game, giving up just four hits, for a complete game victory.
Macalester pitchers were even more dominant in game two, holding the Cougars to just one hit while fanning five batters.
Alisha Barritt (So., Oklahoma City, Okla. / Bethany) pitched the first three innings to set the tone for the victory.
The opening game got off to a good start for the Scots, who crossed the plate three times in the bottom of the first inning on four hits, getting RBIs from
Miranda Stokes (Fy., Perry, Utah / Box Elder),
Hali Englert (Fy., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View) and
Allie Dautrich (So., Mansfield Center, Conn. / E.O. Smith). The Cougars scored twice in the third to cut the Mac advantage to 3-2 before Nagy's third home run in three games gave the Scots an insurance run.
Stokes belted her first collegiate home run in the second game and went 3-for-5 on the game with five RBI.
Tara Cayton (Fy., Pleasanton, Calif. / Amador Valley) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Nagy and Englert also collected a pair of hits.
Mac's 10-game Spring Break trip to Clermont, Florida, starts March 11 with games against Manhattanville (N.Y.) and Hood (Md.).
