Macalester's steamroll continued Saturday with a 5-3 and 7-3 MIAC sweep at home over St. Mary's. The Scots have swept their last five conference foes and at 13-1 own a three-game lead in the MIAC standings with six games to go. Mac is 16-2 over its past 18 games and is 21-9 on the season.
The upset-minded Cardinals (now 9-25 overall and 2-14 in the MIAC) led 2-1 in the opener before Macalester gave starter
Nick Meerson (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.) a lead by scoring three decisive runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Meerson fanned five batters and didn't walk anyone, while
Alex Ingram (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / Morgan Park Academy) pitched the final 1 1/3 frames to collect the save.
Garrett Salzman (Jr., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis) went 3-for-3 and after Saturday's action is batting .418 on the season.
Mitch Glasser (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School), who is now hitting .425, belted his third homer of the season, a three-run shot in the first inning of game two to give the Scots the early lead.
Nathan Kelleher-Crew (Fy., Cool, Calif. / Golden Sierra) gave up just one run in six innings of relief to pick up his first collegiate win.
The Scots play a single game Tuesday (May 3) at Northwestern-Roseville) and return to MIAC action Wednesday (May 4) when they host St. Thomas at 2:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
