Scots plate four runs in final inning twice to sweep Carleton

Macalester vs. Carleton box scores: Game 1 | Game 2

Macalester came from behind twice, rallying with big final innings to beat Carleton 5-1 and 7-3. The Scots are 9-1 in the MIAC and remain above Hamline (9-3) and St. John's (9-3) for first place in the conference standings. Five of the team's conference wins have come in the final inning. Mac has swept its past three MIAC doubleheaders, allowing only 12 runs in those six games.

The Scots plated four runs in the top of the seventh inning in the opener (after tying the game in the sixth) and crossed the plate four times in the eighth inning in the nightcap (after again knotting the score in the sixth).

Macalester, which came into the twinbill ranked first in the MIAC in batting and pitching, and second in fielding percentage, committed just one error on the day and received two more strong pitching games.

The first game was a pitcher's dual between Mac's Elliott Yodh (Sr., Merion, Pa. / Lower Merion) and CC's Jacob Anderson.

Andrew Gardner and Robert Williams (Jr., West Covina, Calif. / Northview) collected two hits each in game one. Graham Brown (Jr., Annandale, Minn.) singled to lead off the sixth and crossed the plate on a two-out Williams base hit down the left field line. In the seventh, the Scots had four runs on three hits, and received the go-ahead run when C.J. Smith (Fy., Ashland, Wis.) doubled and scored on a ground out.

Macalester also waited until late in game two, tying the game at 3-3 on a Smith sacrifice fly in the sixth. The go ahead run in the eighth came when Colin Carpenter (Fy., Harvard, Ill.) led off with a double and scored on a ground out. Eric Robinson (Sr., San Fransico, Calif. / The Urban School) pitched the final two innings to boost his record to 6-0.

The Scots jump right back into MIAC play tomorrow when they play a pair at Bethel.
