Overtime penalty kick brings Scots victory over UW-River Falls

Macalester posted its third shutout in four games and Lauryn Gutierrez (Sr., Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's) successfully converted a penalty kick in overtime as the Scots won a 1-0 road game Sunday over Wisconsin-River Falls. The Scots are now 3-1 and the Falcons drop to 3-2.

Goalkeeper Rosie Glenn-Finer (So., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick Wilmerding) made four saves and she's now given up just one goal in four matches. Gutierrez netted the overtime PK in the 98th minute for her second goal of the season.

Macalester had all nine of the game's corner kicks and a 22-9 shot advantage (12-4 in shots on goal). The Scots have earned a dominant 24-0 margin in corner kicks over the last two matches and on the season own a 39-5 advantage in corners.

Gutierrez accounted for six of Mac's 12 shots on net. UWRF's keeper turned away 11 shots on goal before the game-winning PK.

The Scots open MIAC play Wednesday (Sept. 15) against Concordia-Moorhead at 3 p.m. The Cobbers are the defending conference champions and are ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Division III. Concordia eliminated Macalester in the second round of last year's Division III playoffs.
