Macalester vs. Northwestern box score
In their previous game, the Scots scored 17 runs to complete a sweep over Bethel. Today at Nicholson Field on Senior Day, Macalester bats stayed hot as the Scots rolled past Northwestern-Roseville 18-2 as seven players collected multiple hits in the season's home-finale.
The Scots improve to 20-15-1 with four games remaining, reaching the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2002, and clinching a winning overall record.
Just as they posted a double-digit run inning against Bethel Saturday, getting 11 runs in one frame, the Scots put together another huge inning, plating 10 runs in the sixth. By that time, starting pitcher
Louis Mondale (So., St. Louis Park, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret) had pretty much secured the win. Monday boosted his record on the year to 3-0, allowing just one earned run and a walk through seven innings on the mound.
Picking up two hits apiece for the Scots were:
Robert Engel (Sr., Sunnyvale, Calif. / St. Lawrence),
Nathan Rubin (So., Venice, Fla.),
Will Chen (Jr., Edina, Minn.),
Jason Friedman (Sr., New York, N.Y. / The Browning School),
Bobby De Meulenaere (Jr., Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Elk Grove),
Nate Wilson-Traisman (Sr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) and
Graham Brown (So., Annandale, Minn.).
Chen drove in four runs, three on his first homer of the season. Wilson-Traisman also had four RBI and
Mitch Glasser (So., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School) scored three runs.
Mac finished the game with 20 hits, while also taking advantage of four hit-by-pitches and five walks, as well as five Northwestern errors.
The Eagles drop to 15-20 on the season.
The Scots have a couple MIAC doubleheaders remaining on the schedule, tomorrow (May 5) at St. Olaf and Sunday (May 9) at St. Mary's.
