Macalester vs. Augsburg box scores:
Game 1 |
Game 2
A year ago, the Scots went 8-0 in the MIAC on their new home park. However, the streak ended Saturday afternoon at Nicholson Field as Augsburg toppled Macalester 3-2 and 8-6 in the conference opener for both teams. The Scots are now 12-7-1 overall and the Auggies are 9-11.
In the opener, Augsburg's Kristofer Ozga and a couple relievers beat
James Murrey (Sr., Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Township) 3-2 in a pitcher's duel in a game where each team was held to just five hits. The Auggies plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to set the stage and held on for the one-run victory.
Devin English (Sr., Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) accounted for three of Mac's five hits. He scored a run in the fourth and drove in a seventh-inning run which cut the deficit to 3-2. On the day, English went 5-for-9 and made some nice defensive plays at third base.
The top four hitters in the Mac lineup went a combined 9-for-16 in the nightcap and the Scots out-hit their guests 13-7, but seven walks, 11 runners left on base and three errors, as well as back-to-back Auggie homers in the third inning, were too much to overcome.
Nate Wilson-Traisman (Sr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, while English,
Graham Brown (So., Annandale, Minn.) and
Mitch Glasser (So., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School) added a pair of hits each. Glasser drove in three runs.
Macalester returns to action Wednesday (April 7) at Midway Stadium for an MIAC twinbill against Hamline.
