Game 2
Eric Robinson (Sr., San Francisco, Calif. / Urban School) pitched Macalester to a 7-3 win in the opener against Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, but the Gusties escaped with the split by rallying from a 3-1 deficit in the seventh inning to win 4-3.
The Scots are now 16-12-1 overall and 3-7 in the MIAC. The Gusties are 12-14 on the season, 4-6 in the league.
Nate Wilson-Traisman (Sr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) went 7-for-8 on the day (after going 3-for-3 yesterday against Bethany Lutheran) to boost his batting average to .413. He's 19-for-36 (.528) over Macalester's past 10 games.
Robinson yielded just six hits and a walk for the complete game win in the opener. He forced 15 ground ball outs, compared to just one fly out. Behind 2-1 going into the top of the third inning, the Scots plated three runs to take the lead for good.
Graham Brown (So., Annandale, Minn.) sparked the rally with a leadoff single and stolen base, and went to third on a
Devin English (Sr., Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) base hit. Wilson-Traisman drove in Brown with an infield single and English crossed the plate on a ground out.
Mac went up 6-2 with three runs in the fifth. Wilson-Traisman doubled in English,
Robert Williams (So., West Covina, Calif. / Fairview) singled in the second run, and
Garrett Salzman (So., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis), singled in the third run.
The Scots had a good chance to pick up their first MIAC sweep in the nightcap behind a strong pitching effort from
Nick Meerson (So., Los Angeles, Calif. / Westlake), who gave up just a single Gustie run through 5-plus innings of duty. Meerson allowed only five hits and didn't walk a batter. Reliever
James Murrey (Sr., Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Township) got out of trouble in the sixth after Meerson was lifted after giving up a leadoff double, but in the bottom of the seventh, Gustavus came up with six hits (including an infield hit and a bunt single), the final hit being the walk-off game-winner.
Wilson-Traisman had another big game at the plate, going 4-for-4 in this pitcher's duel. English and
Mitch Glasser (So., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School) had RBI's for the Scots.
Macalester is back in action Sunday (April 25)against Carleton at 12 noon at Nicholson Field.
