Macalester vs. Hamline statistics
Macalester compiled 399 yards in total offense, including 300 through the air on a 22-for-34 passing performance by quarterback
Clark Bledsoe (So., Jacksonville, Fla. / Episcopal), but host-Hamline wins the Paint Bucket Trophy for the 12th straight year, beating the Scots 49-30 and stopping Mac's three-game win streak.
Although the Scots out-gained Hamline 26-18 in first downs, 399-368 in yardage, and 38:11 to 21:49 in possession time, Hamline's rushing advantage was too much to overcome. HU rushed for 192 yards while holding the Mac running game to 99 yards on the ground.
Hamline led 21-6 at the halftime break, holding the Scots to a pair of short
Auburn Jimenez (Fy., East Los Angeles, Calif. / St. John Bosco) field goals. The pace picked up considerably in the third and fourth quarters as the two teams combined for seven touchdowns and a field goal. The teams alternated their scores in the second half and each team scored on four consecutive possessions.
Mike Snavely (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) provided Macalester with 24-yard and 54-yard touchdown receptions, while
Jon Elliott (Sr., El Paso, Tex. / Andress) scored on a 15-yard pass from Bledsoe. Snavely caught five passes on the day for 120 yards and Elliott finished with nine catches for 107 yards. Snavely now has six touchdowns on his 24 pass receptions on the season.
Zach Englert (So., Salt Lake City, Utah / Skyline) was Mac's leading tackler with 10 stops, while
Aaron Gallegos (So., Lakeville, Minn. / North) made six tackles while breaking up two HU passes.
Hamline's Zach Cornish carried the ball 19 times for 130 yards and a couple touchdowns, while Alex House caught seven passes for 80 yards and two scores. The key plays for Hamline in the first half were an 80-yard interception return and an eight-yard TD pass with just :03 left in the second quarter which put the Scots down by 15 heading into the locker room.
Macalester looks to get back on the winning track next Saturday (Oct. 9) when it plays host to Trinity Bible (N.D.) at 6 p.m.
