Macalester vs. Bethel statistics
Macalester won a hard-fought battle at Bethel, tying the score in the 67th minute as
Maggie Molter (Fy., Cedarburg, Wis.) netted her first collegiate goal in her first collegiate game, and taking the victory midway through the second overtime period on a
Lauryn Gutierrez (Sr., Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's) goal to get past the Royals 2-1 in Arden Hills.
The Scots, who received seven saves from
Rosie Glenn-Finer (So., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick Wilmerding), improve to 6-4 to keep their winning record going on the season, and even their MIAC mark at 2-2. Upstart Bethel, coming off a win over St. Thomas and a tie with league power Concordia, is now 5-3-2 overall, 2-2-1 in the league.
Molter, moving up to varsity as injuries continue to hamper the team's depth, scored on an assist by
Lucy Miner (Jr., Seattle, Wash. / Ballard) after Bethel capped off a dominant first half with the game's initial tally at 41:41. Glenn-Finer and the Mac defense kept the team alive until Gutierrez scored off the team's ninth corner kick of the match.
Bethel had an 8-6 lead in shots on goal and 23-17 margin in total shots in this offensive-minded battle. Half of Mac's six attempts on goal were registered by
Emily Bardwell (Sr., Denver, Colo. / East).
Three of Macalester last four wins have come in overtime, including both MIAC victories.
The Scots, who bounced back from a defeat to Carleton, play host to St. Catherine Wednesday (Oct. 6) at 7:30 p.m.
