Lauryn Gutierrez (Jr,. Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's) scored on an assist from Rose Betzler (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) in the final minute of the first half and the Scots went on to tie Wartburg (Ia.) 1-1 at Macalester Stadium. The five-time champs of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Wartburg came in highly-regarded after beginning its season with 3-1 and 3-0 wins on the road over MIAC powers Carleton and St. Thomas, respectively. The Knights increase their unbeaten streak to 17 games.

Both teams are now 2-0-1 on the young season.

Macalester goalkeeper Tressa Versteeg (Jr., Pella, Ia.) surrendered her first goal in three starts, but registered four saves on the day. Emily Bardwell (Jr., Denver, Colo. / East) accounted for five of Mac's seven shots on goal.

The Scots out-shot the Knights 16-12, and had a couple shots on goal in overtime. The Wartburg keeper was forced to make six saves.

After three home matches to start the year, the Scots play their next four on the road. They play Saturday (Sept. 12) at Wisconsin-Platteville and Sunday (Sept. 13) at Loras (Ia.).
