Pipers take two from Macalester at Midway Stadium

Macalester vs. Hamline box scores: Game 1 | Game 2

Hamline came back from a 4-0 game one deficit to earn an 8-4 and 5-1 sweep over Macalester in a key MIAC doubleheader for both teams at Midway Stadium. The winning Pipers boost their record to 19-15 overall and 10-6 in the MIAC, while the Scots fall to 17-17 overall and 8-8 in the league.

The Scots and Pipers came into the game with identical overall and conference records, but when the day was over, Hamline was in control of its MIAC post-season destination, while Macalester needs to get hot in remaining regular-season twinbills with Gustavus and Bethel to have a chance of getting in to the four-team playoffs.

The Scots were held to three hits in the second contest and in the two games were charged with seven errors. Macalester had three doubles in the opener and out-hit Hamline 8-6, but the Pipers left just one runner on base. Macalester opened the game with a five-hit, four-run first inning, leading off with a pair of singles and a pair of doubles.

Mac plays host to Crown in a single non-conference game Tuesday (April 18) at 3:30 p.m.
