Eagles hold on for win over Scots

Macalester vs. Northwestern box score

Visiting Northwestern-Roseville out-hit the Scots 14-2 in a single nine-inning game, but had to hold off late Macalester threats to escape with a 4-3 victory and snap Mac's five-game winning streak. The Eagles survived a ninth-inning which saw Macalester get the tying and winning runs on base with just one out. Macalester, which had been idle for seven days, is now 13-13 on the season. NWC is also .500 at 12-12.

Macalester took advantage of three Northwestern fielding errors and four walks to tally three runs on their two singles. The home team received singles from Garrett Salzman (Fy., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis) and Graham Brown (Fy., Annandale, Minn.) for their two hits.

Down 4-0 after the Eagles plated single runs in four different innings, the Scots scored their three runs in the bottom of the eighth on an error, a Salzman hit, two walks and a ground out RBI.

The top two hitters in the Northwestern lineup – Ryan Long and Dan Halstengard – collected three hits each and starting pitcher Mark Meredith worked the first seven innings.

The Scots are 4-4 in the conference and return to MIAC play tomorrow at Concordia-Moorhead.
