Macalester vs. Rockford box score

Rockford (Ill.) led 6-5 at the seventh-inning stretch and then went on to deliver the Scots a 14-5 defeat in the first of 10 Macalester Spring Break games in the Phoenix area.

The Scots, who flew to Phoenix the morning of the 5 p.m. game, fell behind 3-0 but came alive with two runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings and another tally in the seventh. Rockford, however, responded by crossing the plate four times in both the seventh and eighth frames.

Nate Wilson-Traisman (Jr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) went 3-for-5 with two runs driven in to lead the Macalester attack. Garrett Salzman (Fy., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis) and Jason Friedman (Jr., New York, N.Y. / The Browning School) each collected two hits. Both Friedman hits were doubles, while Salzman drove in a couple runs.

Rockford (5-3) pounded out 16 hits, including three each from Chris Brockman and Phil Smith.

Macalester (5-2) plays a doubleheader tomorrow with Wheaton (Ill.).
