Macalester picked up goals from
Rose Holdorf (Jr., Corvallis, Ore. / Crescent Valley) and
Emily Bardwell (Jr., Denver, Colo. / East) to beat Wisconsin-River Falls 2-1 Friday night in St. Paul. The Scots, who improve to 8-3-2 on the season, received assists from
Jenna Machado (So., Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) and
Maddy Cochrane (Sr., Grand Marais, Minn. / Cook County). The Falcons drop to 6-6-1.
The Scots had a slight 12-11 lead in shots and 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Tressa Versteeg (Jr., Pella, Ia.) worked the first 64 minutes in goal without giving up a score, picking up three saves to lower her goals against average on the season to 0.97.
Machado picked up the assist on Holdorf's first career goal to put the home team up for good just 1:40 before the halftime break. Bardwell fought through the Falcon defense and scored on a nice shot from long range for her ninth score of the campaign off a pass from Cochrane .
The Scots are 3-2-1 in the MIAC and play Gustavus next Tuesday (Oct. 13) at home at 7:30 p.m. in a big conference match. Macalester is in fifth in the league standings and fighting for a spot in the four-team MIAC playoffs.
