Macalester moves to 3-2 in MIAC with Marshall goal

Macalester vs. St. Mary's statistics

Macalester out-shot St. Mary's 25-3, including 13-0 in attempts on net, but had to sweat it out before escaping with a 1-0 MIAC triumph Friday night in Winona. Ryan Marshall (So., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale, Armstrong) tallied his first goal of the season midway through the second half on a Stephen Murphy-Logue (Jr., Anchorage, Ak. / West) assist as the Scots move over the .500 mark in conference play at 3-2. Macalester goes to 6-6-1 overall.

Marshall picked a good spot for his first goal of the campaign, converting Murphy-Logue's pass at 65:33.

St. Mary's keeper Jon Szafranski turned away 12 Mac shots on goal, including four by Reid Usedom (So., Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds) and three by Jake Duscha (Jr., St. Paul, Minn. / Highland Park).

The Scots, one of five teams with winning MIAC records and in the thick of the race for a conference playoff berth, return to action with their six straight road game next Wednesday (Oct. 14) at Gustavus in a key match for both sides.
