St. Catherine scored off its first corner kick of the match seven minutes into overtime to defeat the visiting Scots 3-2.
The Wildcats, who gain their first win ever in nine tries against Macalester, pick up their first MIAC victory of the season and move to 4-5-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the league. The Scots, who had three wins and a tie in their previous four conference games, drop to 7-3-2 overall, 3-2-1 in the MIAC.
Macalester had a 14-8 lead in shots on goal in this offensive-minded contest, and led 7-1 in corner kicks, but could not put the Wildcats away. Before today, the Scots were 4-0-3 in overtime games over the past three seasons.
After St. Kate's opened the scoring in the 40th minute, Macalester equalized the match in the final minute of the first half as
Lauryn Gutierrez (Jr., Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's) put away a pass from
Martha Coe (Jr., Grand Haven, Mich.) for her fifth score of the campaign and 11th of her career. However, St. Catherine scored just 1:07 into the second half to regain the advantage.
Macalester gave itself a chance for a win or tie when
Lucy Miner (So., Seattle, Wash. / Ballard) set up
Emily Bardwell (Jr., Denver, Colo. / East) for her eighth goal of the year at 85:45.
SCU's Christina Palk netted the game-winner at 96:29.
