Macalester falls to Bethel

Bethel pulled away from a 20-20 tie in the first set to win the opener 25-21, and went on to defeat Macalester 3-0 at the Leonard Center. The Royals won the second and third sets 25-18 and 25-20. The second set was tied 12-12 before the Royals controlled play the rest of the way. In set three, the tally was deadlocked at 16-16 before the visitors went up for good.

The Royals, who had three players reach double digits in kills, improve to 13-15 on the season and 4-6 in the MIAC. The Scots drop to 6-16 overall, 0-10 in the league.

Spiking seven kills apiece to lead Macalester's attack were Erin Cusac (Sr., Pine River, Minn. / Pine River-Backus), Taylor Tinkham (So., St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Majra Mucic (Jr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.), while Marie Godwin (Sr., Chaska, Minn.) added five kills to go along with a team-leading nine digs.

Danielle Dweck (So., Sea Cliff, N.Y. / North Shore) handed out 28 assists in the three sets and Anna Trier (Fy., Sun Prairie, Wis.) served three aces.

Nicole Wriedt spiked 12 kills to lead Bethel, while Kelly Otto and Amy Werner each added 11.  Betsy Naatjes contributed 37 assists.

Macalester winds up its season Friday (Oct. 30) at the Leonard Center when it plays host to St. Catherine at 7 p.m.
