Macalester vs. St. Mary's statistics
St. Mary's maintained its position in the race for a conference playoff spot by sweeping Macalester 3-0 at the Leonard Center. Set scores were 25-19, 25-13 and 25-12 as the Cardinals hit .350 for the match while serving eight aces.
The Cardinals, the fourth-ranked team in the Central Region, boost their record to 20-6 on the season and 5-3 in the MIAC. The Scots are 6-15 overall, 0-9 in the MIAC.
Macalester's best set was the first as the team spiked at a .192 clip, but came up short after a 18-17 tie late in the set. The Scots used a 5-1 rally to tie set two at 11-11 before St. Mary's pulled away with a 14-2 run to go up in the match 2-0.
Majra Mucic (Jr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) led the attack with eight kills on a .293 hitting percentage. She also provided three blocks.
Anna Trier (Fy., Sun Prairie, Wis.) chipped in with six kills.
Leading the back row were
Erin Cusac (Sr., Pine River, Minn. / Pine River-Backus) with eight digs and
Marie Godwin (Sr., Chaska, Minn.) with seven.
Danielle Dweck (So., Sea Cliff, N.Y. / North Shore) handed out 18 assists.
Sarah Gardner spiked 16 kills to lead the SMU attack. Brittany Cherwinka dished out 37 assists.
The Scots host a pair of MIAC matches next week to close out the season. Macalester takes on Bethel on Wednesday (Oct. 28) and finishes up Friday (Oct. 30) against St. Catherine.
