Macalester vs. Carleton statistics & play-by-play
Carleton turned a close game into a 16-point win by scoring 48 second half points to defeat Macalester 78-62 in Northfield. All five Carleton starters reached double figures in scoring.
The Knights move closer to clinching a spot in the six-team post-season conference playoffs and improve to 16-7 overall, 11-7 in the MIAC. Macalester falls to 6-17 overall and 4-14 in MIAC play.
The game's first half was close throughout. Each team had a five-point lead at one point but the margin never grew higher than that. Macalester led 32-30 at the break. The first seven minutes of the second period was also closely-played. Carleton, however, turned a 50-48 advantage with 12:57 left into a 16-point triumph by outscoring its guests 28-14 the rest of the way. The Knights shot 57% in the second half.
Macalester received another double-double from
Tom Conboy (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn. / Minnetonka), who finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Colin Keeley (Fy., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) made the most of his first career start, also contributing a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Abe Woldeslassie (Sr., Richfield, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy) scored 14 points and handed out six assists, while
Brain Ranwick (Sr., Plymouth, Minn. / Minnetonka) knocked down 3-of-4 three-point shots and finished with 11 points.
Zach Johnson had 23 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals to lead the way for the Knights. Tommy Drake finished with 14 points, six boards and five assists.
Macalester out-rebounded Carleton but the Knights enjoyed a 14-6 turnover advantage.
Macalester has two games remaining this season. The Scots play Bethel on Wednesday (Feb. 20) at the College of St. Catherine at 5:45 p.m. and close out Saturday (Feb. 23) against Hamline at the University of St. Thomas at 7p.m.
