Macalester vs. Hamline statistics
Macalester shot 54% on the day, including 10-for-17 on three-pointers, and blocked 12 shots, but visiting Hamline dominated the boards to deliver the Scots an 89-73 setback at the Leonard Center. Hamline improves to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC. Macalester goes to 0-6 on the year, 0-2 in MIAC play.
The Pipers ripped down 21 offensive boards, compared to six for the Scots, and got off 76 shots from the field, compared to 50 for the home team. Hamline had a +7 turnover advantage and sank 15 of 17 free throws.
Mac received over half of its points from
Kyle Hamblett (So., Paris, France / American School of Paris) and
Colin Keeley (So., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson), who combined to shoot at a 60% rate (15-for-25). Hamblett led all scorers with 22 points and Keeley delivered 20. Hamblett and
Paul Richie (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) each went 3-for-4 from behind the three-point arc, and Keeley made 3-of-5.
Richie also handed out three assists.
Jerry Kraus (Jr., Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral (Colo.)) grabbed eight boards and blocked three shots.
Hamline was led by Tony Thrasher with 21 points and four steals. Carl Hipp provided the Pipers with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Brandon Rieg came off the bench to score 10.
The game's first half was closely contested, with Hamline taking 38-33 lead into the halftime break. Macalester scored the first two points of the second period, but Hamline responded with an 18-4 to open up a 16-point margin at 56-40 with 14:42 to play. The lead was in double digits the rest of the way.
The Scots play two MIAC home games next week. They host Bethel on Monday (Dec. 8) and St. John's Wednesday (Dec. 10).
