Women’s Golf: Macalester Wins Carleton’s September Showdown

| By:
WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – Trailing by nine strokes after the first round, the Macalester College women's golf team won the September Showdown, hosted by Carleton College, by one stroke over St. Catherine Saturday and Sunday at Oneka Ridge Golf Course and Faribault Golf Club. The Scots carded a +6 294 on Sunday and finished with a score of +19 595 over two rounds, setting school records for 18 and 36 holes.

First year Marley Zhang (Hebei, China/Shanghai Hongqiao International School) posted a pair of 71s to win the individual competition at -2, three strokes ahead of runner-up Caylin Cantwell of St. Catherine. This is the second victory of the season for Zhang, who won the CSB Invitational on Sept. 6. Zhang's two-round score this weekend is a new school record for 36 holes, breaking the old record of 145 set by Bailey Lengfelder '26 on two separate occasions.

Next for Macalester was sophomore Yangyang Gu (Nantong, Jiansu, China/Shanhai Experimental School), who tied for sixth with rounds of 73 and 77 (150 +6). First year Eunice Lee (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) closed with a 72 on Sunday to tie for eighth (151 +7), followed by junior Ava Austria (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) in 10th (152 +8).

The previous school record for 18 holes was 300, set in the spring of 2025. The 36-hole record was set earlier this year, when the Scots won the CSB Invitational with a score of 603.

Macalester heads to the MIAC Championships, which take place Oct. 2-4 at Braemar Golf Course in Edina, Minn.
