ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College head baseball coach Matt Parrington was named the MIAC Jim Dimick Coach of the Year, as the conference announced its year-end awards today. Senior pitcher Ben King (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet), senior outfielder Raymond McCaskey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs), junior infielder Holden Peacock (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid School) and first year outfielder John McMurray (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) were selected to the All-MIAC team. Senior infielder Nathan Gumagay (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), senior pitcher Jamie Loizeaux (Albany, Calif./Albany), junior pitcher Jack Nussbaum (Brunswick, Maine/Thornton Academy) and sophomore outfielder Tristan Lander (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) received All-MIAC honorable mention.

The MIAC also announced the All-Playoff Team, recognizing Peacock, McMurray, Nussbaum and Lander for their performances at the MIAC Playoffs.

This is the third MIAC Coach of the Year award for Parrington, who also earned the honor in 2011 and 2017. This year the Scots broke the school record for wins in a season, set at 26 by those teams in 2011 and 2017, with a 29-15 record overall. Parrington led Macalester to a second-place finish in the MIAC standings by flipping last year's conference record of 5-15 to 15-5 this year, including at least one win against every team. As the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs last weekend at CHS Field, the Scots won the playoff title for the second time in the program's history, beating Saint John's 11-6 in the final game on Saturday. The championship sends Macalester to the NCAA Division III Championship for the second time, joining the 2017 team as national qualifiers. Parrington, who earned his 400th victory as the Scots' head coach earlier this year, has a 425-536 record in 27 seasons at Macalester.

King has been the Scots' steadiest starter, posting a 3-1 record and an earned run average of 5.81. He ranks fourth in the MIAC with 51 strikeouts in 48 innings. In a 3-0 victory at Gustavus on April 7, King tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out nine to earn MIAC Pitcher of the Week and a spot on the D3baseball.com national Team of the Week. In 37 appearances and 31 starts, he is 8-7 with 133 strikeouts in 138 1/3 innings in his career.

After receiving All-MIAC honorable mention last year, McCaskey makes the All-MIAC team this year after an outstanding season at the plate and in the field. He is batting .388 with 59 hits, a school-record 54 runs, 33 runs batted in and 16 stolen bases, while posting seven outfield assists. In the Scots' 17-10 comeback win over St. Olaf on Mar. 28, McCaskey hit a grand slam in a 14-run sixth inning and was eventually named MIAC Player of the Week on Mar. 30. In 131 games and 100 starts, he has 112 hits, 24 doubles, eight triples, seven homers, 61 RBIs, 39 stolen bases and a batting average of .335.

Peacock has excelled as Macalester's leadoff hitter and shortstop, batting .325 with 51 hits, 47 runs, 21 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. Boasting an on-base percentage of .456, he has reached base in the last 16 games, and scored at least one run in all four games of the MIAC Playoffs. In an 8-7 win over Saint Mary's on April 15, Peacock was 4-for-6 with a double and three RBIs, delivering the walk-off single that plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth. He joined the 100-hit club this year and now has 109 career hits in 103 games as a Scot.

McMurray had made an immediate impact in his first year at Macalester. He leads the Scots in batting average (.400), hits (66) and RBIs (47), tying the school record for hits and sitting one back of the school record for RBIs in a season. In four games in the MIAC Playoffs, McMurray batted .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles, a triple, five runs and four RBIs. Earlier this season, he was named the MIAC Player of the Week on Mar. 2 and April 20.

Gumagay receives All-MIAC honorable mention for the second straight season after tying for the team lead with 12 doubles while batting .256 with 32 hits, 22 runs and 22 RBIs. His 100th career hit was a big one, a two-run double in the first game of the MIAC Playoffs on Thursday that tied the score with Saint John's in the second inning and led to his go-ahead run in a 5-4 win. The Scots' third baseman who has started 117 career games across the infield, Gumagay has 102 hits, 70 runs and 60 RBIs in 130 total games.

If you've attended a Macalester baseball game this season, you probably saw Loizeaux pitch. The senior reliever appeared in a school-record 28 games, including 15 conference games to break the MIAC record for pitching appearances in a season. Loizeaux is 3-1 with an ERA of 2.45 and a team-best five saves. He has struck out 19 batters in 29 1/3 innings while limiting batters to a .257 batting average. In the Scots' sweep of Augsburg on April 29, Loizeaux earned the save in both games, ending the second game on a strikeout with the bases loaded.

Nussbaum has emerged as one of Macalester's most effective pitchers late in the season. He struck out nine batters in five innings in a win over Carleton on April 19, and fanned a career-best 11 in 6 2/3 innings in a victory at Hamline on May 2. Then in the first game of the MIAC Playoffs, Nussbaum pitched the final 7 2/3innings against Saint John's, limiting the Johnnies to one run on six hits while striking out nine to earn the win. He is 4-1 with 59 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings and an ERA of 4.19.

Lander bounced back after injuries his first year, batting .350 with 43 hits, 25 runs, 11 doubles and 36 RBIs. He delivered the Scots' first walk-off win of the season when he doubled to score Peacock in the bottom of the seventh inning of a 6-5 win over Bethel on April 8. In the final game of the MIAC Playoffs, Lander was big, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles and four RBIs to lead Macalester to an 11-6 victory.

Bethel's Seth Nelson was named the MIAC Max Molock Player of the Year. Max Edwards of Saint John's was chosen both the Mike Augustin Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Click here to view the MIAC's release.
