ST. PAUL, Minn. – By winning the MIAC Playoff championship over the weekend, the Macalester College baseball team received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The Scots (29-15) will face No. 3 UW-Whitewater on Friday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the Whitewater (Wis.) Regional.

Macalester, coached by Matt Parrington, returns to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2017, when the Scots won the MIAC Playoff crown and played in the NCAA Regional for the first time in the program's history. That regional also was played at UW-Whitewater, with Macalester losing a pair of close games to Concordia Chicago and St. Thomas.

This year's Whitewater Regional includes four teams, with Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College joining the Scots and Warhawks. Luther (33-11) earned an at-large bid out of the American Rivers Conference, while Bethany Lutheran (31-6) won the UMAC Playoffs to automatically qualify. The Norse and Vikings are scheduled to play at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

UW-Whitewater (41-4) is the defending NCAA Division III champion and is currently ranked third nationally this season. All games will be played at the Warhawks' Prucha Field at Jim Miller Stadium.

The losers of Friday's games will play at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, with Friday's winners to follow at 2:30 p.m. The winner of Saturday's first game will face the loser of the second game, with that winner advancing to Sunday's final against the remaining unbeaten team. The winner of the Whitewater Regional will advance to the Super Regionals against the winner of the Adrian Regional May 22-23 in a best-of-three format. The Super Regional winners advance to the Championship Finals at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio May 29-June 4.
