MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team earned its first MIAC win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Hamline University in a conference dual Tuesday afternoon at Baseline Tennis Center. The Scots improve to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Pipers fall to 7-5, 2-3 MIAC.
In doubles, seniors
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, then first years
Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) and
Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) fought off Elanna Kohner and Chrissa Muller, 6-4 to clinch the doubles points.
Haugen and Streater both earned straight-set victories at first and fourth singles, respectively. After Hamline took the matches at third and sixth singles in straight sets, the dual came down to the matches at second and fifth singles. Trevathan and Chloe Reyes went to a tie-breaker set at No. 2 singles, with Trevathan winning the match, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) to clinch the dual for the Scots. Sophomore
Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./Hudson) battled Emily Dreger at No. 5 singles but ended up losing the tie-breaker, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
Macalester continues MIAC play with a dual at St. Catherine on Saturday, April 11. The first matches begin at 5:30 p.m. at Baseline Tennis Center.
