OWATONNA, Minn. – Trailing 3-1, the Macalester College women's tennis team won the three remaining singles matches, all in tie-breakers, to come back and beat St. Olaf College, 4-3 in a MIAC dual Saturday morning at the West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center. The victory is the third in a row for the Scots, who are now 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference. The Oles drop to 9-7, 2-6 MIAC.
In doubles play, first years
Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) and
Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) won their match at No. 2 doubles against Elliana Loesch and Dana Keesler, 7-5. But St. Olaf won the other two matches, including a tie-breaker victory at No. 3 doubles, to take the doubles point.
In singles, senior
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) defeated Emma Clift, 6-2, 6-0 to tie the dual at 1-1. The Oles took the matches at third and fifth singles, with Keesley edging Tamburrino in a tie-breaker at third singles, making the score 3-1 and leaving St. Olaf just one win away from taking the dual. All three remaining matches went to a 10-point tie-breaker. Senior
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) outlasted Alexandra Berns, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-8) at No. 1 singles, then Streater came away with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) triumph over Charlotte Sloane at No. 4 singles.
The dual came down to the match at No. 6 singles between Loesch and senior
Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park). In the tie-breaker set, Crosby fended off two match points at 9-8 and 10-9, then played three strong points to close out the match, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 1-0 (12-10) and give the Scots the 4-3 victory.
