ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior pitcher
Ben King (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet) was included on the Team of the Week by D3baeball.com for the week ending April 12, the website announced. King, who was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, tossed a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory at Gustavus on April 7.
Pitching in the seven-inning first game of a MIAC doubleheader, King dominated the Gusties' batters. He had a perfect game through 5 1/3 innings and a no-hitter through six innings. In the seven-inning shutout, King fanned nine batters and walked one, facing 23 batters and throwing 88 pitches to lead the Scots to a 3-0 victory. The win broke a 10-game losing streak to Gustavus and helped the Scots sweep the Gusties for the first time since 2018.
So far this season, King is 2-1 with a 6.75 earned run average. He has 39 strikeouts, which ranks third in the MIAC, and 19 walks in 34 2/3 innings of work.
Macalester plays at Carleton on Sunday, April 19. The MIAC doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
