PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team celebrated its seniors on Senior Day, then the seniors helped to defeat Saint Mary's University, 5-2 in a MIAC dual Thursday afternoon at Hayden Tennis Courts. The Scots improve to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while the Cardinals fall to 6-7-1, 1-7 MIAC.
Macalester earned the doubles point with victories at second and third doubles. First years
Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) and
Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) won their match at No. 2 doubles, beating Olivia Molumby and Aheli Patel, 6-1. Senior
Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and sophomore
Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./Hudson) topped Harsha Gangasani and Maddie Jensen at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
In singles play seniors
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) won their matches at first and second singles, respectively. Haugen defeated Elena Ruzevich, 6-4, 6-1, and Trevathan beat Emily Dondelinger, 6-2, 6-4. Tamburrino won her match over Patel at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Streater beat Taylor DePover, 6-1, 6-1.
Macalester will face St. Olaf in a key MIAC dual on Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 a.m. ath West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center in Owatonna, Minn.
